DIY: Bubble Gum Machine Costume

Last night at midnight, while all the kids and Damon were sleeping… I was busy cutting out felt pieces and gluing pom poms in the dark!  I needed a costume quick – for the Cub Scout Halloween Party coming up on Saturday.  I had seen a bunch of easy last minute pineapple and ice cream cone costumes that I considered, but I couldn’t find a cute yellow dress or tan leggings (for the cone).  Since I had a bunch of felt and pom poms at home, this one was a no brainer.  Sorry I don’t have a photograph for each step, but I was crafting in the dark!

DIY Bubble Gum Machine Costume

Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 yard of red felt
  • 1 sheet of grey felt
  • 1 sheet of black felt
  • 1 sheet of white felt
  • Pom poms (medium size)
  • Tacky glue or a glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Red thread + needle
  • White t-shirt

I’ve seen other posts where they glue the pom poms directly onto their shirt or tank, but I didn’t really want to ruin my perfectly good white t-shirt for a 2 hour Halloween party.  So, I glued all the pom poms onto a circular red felt piece.  And then I sewed the red circle onto my shirt.  The apron was cut out of one large piece of red felt, so no sewing needed (yay!).  And everything was cut freehand.  I would just recommend trying everything on multiple times to make sure the apron is cut to the right size and the placement of the bubble gum circle is exactly where you want it.   I’ll post more pictures tomorrow!  I think a headpiece will add a nice finishing touch to this project.

I desperately was in need of a halloween costume! This is such a great idea and I have a pink wig that I think would look good with this…
