DIY: Felt Pillows + Fleece Blanket Favors

Felt Pillow and Fleece Blanket Favors by Confettiandtea.wordpress.com

For Ella’s 5th birthday this year, she wanted a slumber party!  Since 5 is a bit young for a slumber party, we opted for a Pancake & PJ party instead.  Super fun since all the girls came in their PJs!  For favors, we made monogrammed felt pillow and fleece blankets for all the girls.  I’m definitely not a sewer, but even I was able to pull these off.

Here’s what you need:

  • Fleece fabric (1 yard makes 2 blankets)
  • Felt sheets
  • Stuffing
  • Shearing scissors
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Paper

To make the fleece blankets, I just bought 1-2 yards of different colored fleece fabrics at Joanns.  Then I used shearing scissors to cut each yard of fabric in half.  I also trimmed all 4 sides to make the blanket look finished without sewing the edges.

To make the felt pillows, I first found a font to create paper templates of the girl’s initials.  Using the paper templates, I cut out the letters from a colored felt sheet and used a zig zag stitch to sew the letter onto a flat felt sheet.  Then I used the same zig zag stitch to sew the flat felt sheet to a 2nd sheet.  Before sewing up the entire 4th side, I filled the pillow with stuffing.  After sewing the last bit of the pillow up, I used a shearing scissor to even up all 4 sides of the pillow.

We ended up making lots of blankets and pillows in all different colors and patterns.  The kids really loved them and used them while watching the movie at the party!
